Following the launch of Maritime Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Innovation Lab 2022 , powered by V-Box, we are glad  to host an interview with Mr. Richard Holdsworth, Founding Partner of  V-Box, who highlights that the key priorities for a more diverse, equal and inclusive maritime industry are Gender equality, Ethnicity, Generational diversity, Psychological Safety and Mental health & wellbeing.

At the Global Maritime Forum’s Annual Summit in New York, young maritime professionals discussed what actions need to be taken for the maritime industry to attract future generations. Improving human sustainability will be imperative to help the industry appeal to and retain future talent – an issue increasingly pressing for the resiliency of the entire maritime value chain.

In 2022, the IMarEST analysed the responses from 700 marine engineers, scientists and technologists and spoke with experts from its Special Interest Groups in answer to the question: What do you think are the greatest challenges that will impact your sector/area of expertise in the short, medium and long-term future?’

UKHO’s Chief Executive, Peter Sparkes, refers to the radical changes that S-100 suite of standards will bring to navigational safety, highlighting that the future is digital. In that regard, UKHO is currently in a transition phase up to 2026 as it is withdrawing from paper chart production, supporting users to unlock the benefits that digital navigation brings.

In April 2022, Global Maritime Forum (GMF) called for young professionals across the global maritime industry to participate in this year’s Future Maritime Leaders essay competition. GMF received 188 essays from young maritime leaders from 27 different countries, most of them focusing on human sustainability at sea.
