The United Arab Emirates announced that they will be restrained on who might be behind the attacks on oil tankers off its coast, and promised to de-escalate the difficult situation the Iranian behaviour has caused in the region, as a senior official commented.

In light of the sabotage incident against four commercial vessels, off United Arab Emirates territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, sources revealed that the two sabotaged vessels were identified as the Saudi oil tankers Al-Marzoqah and Amjad. In the meantime, the other two vessels were the Norwegian tanker Andrea Victory, and a UAE bunkering barge, the A Michel.

UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) announced that four commercial vessels were subjected to sabotage, close to United Arab Emirates territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, on Sunday, May 12. The incident occurred east of Fujairah, one of the world’s largest bunkering hubs situated outside the Strait of Hormuz.

Oil products inventories in Fujairah reduced to 23.721 million barrels as of May 6. This development is mainly driven by decreases in the marine fuels and gasolines categories. This fall is the largest in five months. However, in spite of this reduction in inventories, Fujairah are up 37% since the end of 2018. In fact, middle distillates are driving this increase with a 77% rise.

The previous week FOBAS tested a number of fuels from Fujairah that contained elevated acid number (TAN). The tested TAN values were all well above the average for the port (0.12mgKOH/g). Therefore, FOBAS alerts that any such contaminants even at low levels contravenes the stipulations of Revised MARPOL Annex VI regulation 18.3 and International Marine Fuel Standard ISO 8217, Clause 5.

The Port of Fujairah announced that a 0.5% sulphur bunker fuel will be available at the port, as early as February 2019 onwards. Namely, Fujairah Refilling Limited has began the manufacturing and production of the first bunker fuel oil with 0.5% sulphur which will be delivered in Fujairah. Port of Fujairah is also the last major port that bans open loop scrubbers

According to National Advisor Bureau Limited (NABL) the project is an underwater train tunnel, that is planned to connect the UAE and the other GCC countries for the first time in India. The project will consist of a subsea Tunnel and an Ultra Speed subsea railway line.

Seafarers who want to embark or disembark at the Fujairah port in United Arab Emirates will now have to obtain a 96 hour online visa. However, nationals from the Gulf Cooperation Council Oman, Saudi, Kuwait and Bahrain, will not require such a visa. Until now, Fujairah Port was granting on-arrival visas for 48 countries

The development works include deepening of berths, and establishment of quays and storage areas to accommodate the expected growth in cargo traffic.  Furthermore, the development incorporates a 1,000 m quay, a 300,000 m² storage yard, and deepening of berths to a draft of 16.5 m.

It has been reported that the Fujairah port requires the STS inspections by the Harbour Master to be conducted prior to STS operations.
