The IMO fuel oil consumption data collection system became effective on 1 March 2018, requiring from ships of 5,000 gross tonnage and above to submit to their Administration annual reports on fuel oil consumption. In accordance with the latest amendments to Chapter 4 of MARPOL Annex VI, from 1 January 2019, ships must collect fuel oil consumption data based on a methodology that must be included in the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan.

The GloMEEP project delivered a training course to help maritime administrations and classification societies in collecting fuel consumption data from ships. The training took place in China, on 14 of November. Fuel consumption data from ships provide crucial information to support IMO’s  efforts to reduce GHG emissions from international shipping.

This is a new requirement added to chapter 4 of MARPOL Annex VI, entitled as Regulation 22A.

Teramoto Iron Works was selected to manufacture first production version of EMP’s EnergySail in 2016 and this deal paves the way to full commercial production once sea trials have been completed. EnergySail is an automated rigid sail device that enables ships to utilize the power of the wind to reduce fuel consumption.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority unveiled a new incentive scheme for ‘Clean inland shipping and sustainable logistics in Rotterdam’. This scheme provides contributions to new projects that result in reductions in fuel consumption, GHG and air emissions by inland shipping.
