American Seafoods reported 85 new cases of COVID-19 on July 20, on board a trawler docked in Unalaska, Alaska. The company had confirmed six cases aboard the American Triumph late last week, while over the weekend it reported that mass testing on the factory trawler showed 79 more positive tests.

A total of 267 marine accidents were reported to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) in 2019, a decrease from the 2018 total of 289 and below the 10-year (2009–2018) average of 298, according to the Board's annual statistical summaries on transportation occurrences.

The Merchant Shipping Notice 11 of 2020, establishing a routeing system for the southwest Indian waters, enters into effect on 1st August 2020. The system comes in response to a number of collisions of fishing vessels in the busy sea route in the area.

US Coast Guard crews responded to a fishing vessel crew who abandoned ship in the early morning hours June 29. The vessel had struck the south jetty in the Siuslaw River Bar and was beginning to take on water.

While the the Indian fishing trawler Sea Blessia - I was underway, a gang of 15 fishermen belonging to the local fishing community from Malwan, Maharashtra, India, boarded it and stole the trawler’s equipment and fish catch.

NTSB issued an investigation report on the collision of two commercial fishing vessels in the Pacific Ocean, in June 2019, while pursuing the same school of tuna. The report highlighted that neither vessel followed international collision regulations.

Ireland's MCIB issued an investigation report on the fatality of a crew member while attempting to board a fishing vessel at Rosslare Europort, in May 2019. The crew member was under the influence of alcohol.
