Five people were injured after the tourist boat 'Boramar' burst into flame, following collision with another vessel off the island of Toxa, in northwest Spain, Tuesday.  The catamaran was carrying 48 passengers and four crew members at the time of the incident.

In its annual Safety and Shipping Review, Allianz provided a statistics review of shipping incidents by vessel type, by cause and by region, for the last decade. Cargo ships accounted for almost half of incidents, while the main cause has been foundering accounting for over half of all total losses during this period.

On July 23 1998, a destructive fire took place on board the car carrier "Eurasian Dream". The fire spread quickly, and despite the efforts from the crewmembers and fire-fighters, the vessel and a large amount of its cargo became a total loss.

On 12 September 2017, while approaching Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, the ro-ro passenger ferry Wight Sky suffered a catastrophic failure of one of its main propulsion engines, and fire broke out. The fire was control immediately, but the vessel's engineer suffered serious burn injuries. He was subsequently diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and had not returned to work until now, UK MAIB informs.

At total of 20 workers were rescued after being trapped inside an oil tanker which caught fire in Gadani shipbreaking yard, Pakistan, on Monday, local media reported. The incident occurred during dismantling operations only a few months after the tanker scrapping ban was lifted. 

In the latest report by IMCA, fire was detected on board a ship. The vessel was carrying two deep freezers, which were about to go to a platform, when fire broke out in one of them. The deep freezers should have been placed in such a way in order to allow adequate air circulation during transit.

NTSB issued a report on the fire incident onboard the uninspected sailing vessel 'Best Revenge 5', while docked at a marina pier in Falmouth Inner Harbor in Falmouth, Massachusetts, in July 2017. The investigation indicated an electrical fault in an accommodation space on the vessel as the key cause.

Libya's National Oil Corporation announced that it re-opened four oil terminals after General Khalifa Haftar handed over control of the ports. These ports are Ras Lanuf, Es Sider, Zueitina and Hariga. During this month, NOC had declared force majeure in the said ports, but now they started operations again.

Shreyas Shipping and Logistics Limited, the operators of the container ship SSL Kolkata, informed that the vessel remains aground in soft mud some 7.5 nautical miles off the lndian Sunderbans, Kolkata, West Bengal. However, counter pollution response has started.

A new requirement for the carriage of two-way portable radiotelephone apparatus of explosion proof or intrinsically safe type for firefighter’s communication is effective from July 1st, 2018 according to SOLAS regulation II-2/10.10.4 The purpose of these fire-fighter radios is to provide a dedicated means of communication between a team of fire fighters entering the space, and the crew member located outside the space who is assigned to control this team.
