London high court to reach decision on alleged piracy attack in Gulf of Aden

Οn July 5 2011, a small boat with seven armed in the Gulf of Aden drew alongside the 'Brillante Virtuoso', a tanker with 140,000 tonnes of fuel oil. A few hours after the pirates boarded the ship, a fire took place, while the armed men went away and the crew abandoned ship. However, the owners of the ship and the insurers have different stories of what it may have happened, and the London high court will have to decide on the case.

Fire on vessel at Port of Toledo now under control

Oregon firefighters were battling flames on board the vessel St. Clair at the Port of Toledo, on February 16. The ship was moored in the Port for winter season repairs. No one was aboard, and there was no cargo on the vessel at the time of the fire. In addition, a helicopter crew and a pollution responder, aboard a helicopter carried out an aerial observation of the area on February 17 and found no pollution in the Maumee River.

APL Vancouver fire now under control

According to APL, the situation on board APL Vancouver is progressing favourably and is now under control. Furthermore, all crewmembers remain safe, while APL is in continuous contact with the vessel’s Master and local authorities to coordinate all necessary actions. The fire broke out on the container ship, in one of its cargo holds, on January 31.

Yantian Express reaches Port of Freeport, Bahamas

The container ship Yantian Express that burst into flames on 3 January has reached the Port of Freeport, Bahamas. The ships is now waiting for clearance to enter the port, and then the recovery and assessment efforts of the cargo will begin. Cargo in the ship’s first 12 bays, and some of the cargo in the two holds beneath those bays, was impacted. However, a precise estimation of the damage is not possible at the moment.

Fire breaks out on APL container ship

A fire broke out on the container vessel APL Vancouver, in one of its cargo holds, on January 31. At that time, the vessel was on passage from Shekou to Singapore. Emergency response procedures were activated, while local authorities coordinate all necessary actions to ensure the fire is extinguished. However, there are reports that fire is still ongoing, with all the crewmembers being safe.
