One worker lost his life on April 27, after jumping off a harbor crane that was on fire at the Port of Haldia, in Kolkata. Due to the fall, he sustained serious injuries, and died at the hospital. Operations at the berth are currently shut, while an investigation into the incident has started. The man had fallen from a height of about 50 feet. 

According to the Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea (Premar Manche), on Monday, April 22, the fishing vessel 'Saint Jean Pierre' caught fire in the English Channel traffic separation scheme about 26 nm off Boulogne-sur-Mer. Although the crew were rescued, the vessel sank within hours. 

The general cargo ship 'Andrea Princess 2' caught a fire while anchored off Cebu, Philippines, on April 22, according to data provided by the Philippine Coast Guard. The Coast Guard District Central Visayas (CGDCV), with two multi-role response vessels, successfully put out the fire.

Four shipping containers containing food products caught fire at the Port of Oakland, on April 21 night, as the Oakland Fire Department battalion chief informed. No injuries were reported, while the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. After the incident was reported, twenty four firefighters took action for about, trying to extinguish the fire.

An explosion took place on board the bulk carrier 'Great Aspiration', on April 17, in Celtic sea off Lizard, UK. Three crewmembers sustained serious burns, and were in need of medical assistance. The inured men were rescued from the bulker, as a search and rescue helicopter winched them off the ship. 'Great Aspiration' was anchored at Mount’s Bay on April 18, and it continued its sailing that day, going to Falmouth, under its own power.

More than 30 years have passed since the explosion and sinking of the VLCC ‘MT Haven’ off the coast of Genoa, Italy. To date, Haven is not only known as the world's largest shipwrecks, but also the largest oil spill in the history of the Mediterranean Sea.

A fire broke out in the crew cabins of the bulk carrier 'Albany Sound', while the ship was berthed at North Carolina Port, Morehead City, US, on April 14. Ac cording to information, the fire affected only the crew cabins and not other parts of the ship. Morehead City Fire fighters, helped by other departments, went on the incident scene and put out the fire by the afternoon of the same day. Currently, the bulk carrier is berthed at the port.

NTSB published its report on the fire on board the commercial fishing vessel Ole Betts Sea, on March 18, 2018, in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. The fire lasted for 16 hours, and the vessel eventually sank about 18 miles northeast of the island of Garden Key, Dry Tortugas, Florida. No pollution or injuries were reported. The ship was a total loss valued at $200,000.

Containership Yantian Express has remained in Freeport, Bahamas because some shippers have not posted General Average/salvage security, although they have offloaded all fire damaged containers from the vessel. The Yantian Express is not to depart from Freeport until late April, or Early May. Even its sail destination, when departing from Freeport, remains unknown.

Al Fayrouz, a Panama-flagged ro-ro vessel, caught fire on Monday, April 8, while sailing in the Red Sea. As reported by the Saudi Arabian Border Guards, the 101-meter was in international waters, 60 nautical miles off Saudi Arabia’s Farasan Islands, when the incident occurred.
