Lessons learned: Fire on Ro-Ro contained after crew’s quick action

In its latest Safety Digest, UK MAIB describes a case of fire on a vehicle on the car deck of a Ro-Ro vessel, resulting from an electrical short-circuit. The investigation highlighted that the crew’s quick and efficient reaction brought the situation under control and there were no injuries.

According to an announcement by the Bristol Port, fire broke out at Bristol Port’s Royal Portbury Docks on 28th March during loading operations.

Containership fires highlighted during IMO Sub-committee

During the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE) Gard discussed about containership fires from the insurer’s perspective and the challenge they appear to be for the maritime industry, recommending solutions and technologies that can improve the existent situation.
