The Oil and Gas Climate Initiative welcomed three new member companies that together represent 5% of global oil and gas production: Chevron, Exxon Mobil, and Occidental Petroleum. The three new companies will become official members of OGCI as of 24 September 2018.

US-based oil major ExxonMobil has made its ninth discovery offshore Guyana at the Hammerhead-1 well, marking its fifth discovery on the Stabroek Block in the past year and proving a new play concept for potential development in the area.

Three European oil and gas majors, UK's Shell, BP, and Italian Eni, have outperformed their peers in new project approvals and lifting costs, according to latest research by Rystad Energy. For projects that have started up since 2014, majors have collectively achieved greenfield costs of $13.50 per barrel of oil equivalent.

Ahead of the IMO global sulphur cap, entering into force in 2020 and expected to dramatically change the fuel landscape in the maritime industry, American oil major ExxonMobil has published best practice tips to help operators switch to low sulphur fuels, while maintaining a vessel’s safe and reliable operation.

American energy major ExxonMobil announced greenhouse gas reduction measures, including a 15% decrease in methane emissions and a 25% reduction in flaring. The company also revealed its intention to improve energy efficiency in refining and chemical manufacturing facilities.

American energy major ExxonMobil is launching a mass flow metering system (MFMS) for marine gas oil in Singapore, after the Maritime and Port Authority mandated that all distillates must be delivered via a MFMS from 1 July 2019. The first barge deliveries are set to start in May 2018, the company said.

ExxonMobil announced that it will supply fuels that comply with the IMO 0.5% sulphur cap in ports in Northwest Europe, the Mediterranean and Singapore. Additional locations will be announced during 2018. The fuels will use patented technology to identify potential compatibility issues during the development process.

After the Greek Ministry of Environment & Energy released a Call for Tenders regarding the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons Offshore West Crete and Southwest Crete, a consortium of Total, ExxonMobil and Hellenic Petroleum, submitted  offers for these two lease block areas.
