Sources report that about 66 people suffered minor injuries when the fire broke out on July 31, at a massive ExxonMobil plant in Texas. Allegedly, the fire broke out at a polypropylene recovery unit where plastic is purified for production.

ExxonMobil introduced EMF.5, its range of engineered marine fuels, specifically designed to help operators comply with the IMO 2020 global sulphur cap. The company says that the new product does not compromise fuel quality. ExxonMobil has also developed a n40BN cylinder oil, to work with low-sulphur fuels. It will be available across its port network along with our EMF.5 range of fuels.
On June 27, Greece granted licenses to ExxonMobil as well as Total to search for hydrocarbons off the island of Crete. This move marks the country’s first major attempt into an oil and gas search in the area. The companies have an eight-year research and exploitation license in two offshore blocks, located south and south-west of Crete.
Israel’s Oil Refineries have delivered its first cargo of compliant 0.5% sulphur content marine fuel, in line with IMO’s upcoming rules. Namely, the 197,000 barrel per day refinery loaded its first 30,000 tonne cargo of the low sulphur fuel. ORL now joins several other refiners that recently developed new marine fuels to comply with the new regulation.
ExxonMobil has completed an expansion at its Singapore refinery to upgrade its production of EHC Group II base stocks, aiming to enhance the global supply of base stocks and improve the integrated facility’s competitiveness. The expansion will allow customers to blend lubricants to comply with stricter regulations, reduce emissions and improve fuel economy as well as low-temperature performance.
ExxonMobil informed that it has added another marine lubricant for compliance with IMO 2020 sulphur cap. Mobilgard M420 is a 20 BN oil that has been tested for use in medium speed engines and it has received No Objection Letters from engine builders, including MAN ES and Wartsila.
Brazilian Petrobras informed that it will carry out tests starting in June, aiming to evaluate the production of 2020 sulphur cap compliant fuel. As the company said, it does not know the exact viscosity, but it expects it to be lower. During April, Petrobras produced its first set of 0.5% sulphur fuel oil, from its Isaac Sabba refinery in Manaus. The fuel had 0.34% sulphur content, viscosity of 323cst at 50°C and density of 932.7 kg/m3 at 15°C.
ExxonMobil and the Netherlands’ government leaders met in the Port of Rotterdam to celebrate the beginning of a new installation at the port’s refinery. The project reflects an investment of more than a billion euros. The hydrocracker plant uses a first in the world combination of proprietary process and catalyst technology to efficiently produce both high-quality base stocks and ultra-low sulphur diesel.
ExxonMobil announced that it will invest $100 million in ten years in favour of research and develop advanced lower emissions technologies with the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory and National Energy Technology Laboratory.
