Japanese MOL and Reliance Ethane Holding agreed to co-owning of Six Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs) which are currently fully-owned by REHPL. The six VLECs were delivered in 2016-2017 and have been engaged for transportation of Liquefied Ethane from Houston in India.
‘Navigator Aurora’ became the first ship that successfully converted its slow-speed marine diesel engine to operate on ethane as a fuel. The conversion lasted 15 days and took place after engine performance and emissions testing at Kawasaki in Japan, to prove that burning ethane in the Navigator ME-GI engines would be possible.
The Port of Amsterdam informed that the additional charges on the storage and transhipment of ethanol in Amsterdam have stopped and that the Port can now charge the same prices as Port of Rotterdam. This enables Amsterdam to compete in the global ethanol market. This established new opportunities in the biofuels market.
INEOS announced the agreement with SP Chemicals for the delivery of ethane from US shale gas to China. The agreement will see US ethane from shale gas shipped to China for the first time.
The steel-cutting for the first 85,000m3 very large ethane carrier, which was ordered by JHW Engineering & Contracting, took place in Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore, on 15th of June. This VLEC will be delivered at the beginning of 2019, to build a maritime virtual pipeline from US to Asia across the ocean.
The world’s first Very Large Ethane Carrier (VLEC), Ethane Crystal, has loaded its first shipment of ethane cargo at Enterprise Products Partner’s Morgan’s Point Terminal. The VLEC which features a length of 227.85 meters and a width of 36.49 meters, was classed by ABS in November.
MOL announced the delivery of the new building Very Large Ethane Carrier “ETHANE CRYSTAL”by SHI, for Reliance. MOL was appointed by Reliance to undertake Site Supervision of new builds and is also to be the Operator and the Ship Manager of these vessels.
Indian’s Reliance inaugurated its very first two VLEC, “Ethane Crystal” and “Ethane Emerald” which are the world’s first ethane carriers to feature GTT’s membrane technology.
The INEOS Insight has arrived at Grangemouth near Falkirk in Scotland carrying 27,500m3 of ethane from US shale fields. This is the first time that ethane from US shale gas has ever been shipped to the UK.
ABS has confirmed that the ABS-classed Navigator Aurora, the world’s largest ethane/ethylene capable liquefied gas carrier, has been delivered to Navigator Gas by Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, China.
