Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes is one of five port authorities shortlisted for the ESPO Award 2016 which is based on safeguarding and further upgrading the nature in the port area.

The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) will present its position paper on the revision of the port reception facilities (PRF) at the GreenPort Congress in Venice this October.

The ESPO Award 2016 is entering into its 8th Edition. The theme for the 8th ESPO Award on Societal Integration of Ports is “Nature in Ports”. Eleven port authorities have applied for the award which it will be officially handed out during an Award Ceremony and Port Night, on 9 November 2016 in Brussels.

After 15 years of discussions, Commission, Council and Parliament have reached an agreement on a Port Regulation, a legal European framework for organising the port services and financial transparency for ports in Europe.During the 4th trilogue meeting, the Dutch Presidency and the EP main negotiators reached a compromise.

The port of Tangier Med in Morocco has been awarded the certification 'EcoPort' by the ESPO. Tangier Med is the first African port to join the EcoPort group, a network of port professionals committed to sharing views and practices to facilitate the improvement of the sector’s environmental performance.

ESPO has joined the “Think Climate” coalition that has been set up under the umbrella of PIANC, the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure. Think Climate brings together major international associations with interests in waterborne transport infrastructure, with the objective to help the sector respond to climate change.

  On 17 June, ESPO congratulated the Port of Vigo (Spain) for achieving the Port Environmental Review System (PERS) certification a second time. The certification ceremony took place during the Green Energy Ports Conference, hosted by the Port of Vigo. The event also coincides with European Sustainable Energy Week, which seeks to inspire consumers, public authorities and other stakeholders to join forces in shaping Europe's sustainable energy future. PERS is the only port sector specific environmental management standard. It is the flagship product of the EcoPorts network and is offered as part of the ESPO services to its members through the EcoPorts website. Compliance with the PERS standard is independently assessed by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance and the certificate has a validity of 2 years. ESPO said it is delighted to observe the increased interest shown to PERS by European port authorities and encourages all ports within its membership to implement the scheme and to get certified.
