UK cuts operational production costs, Rystad says

Rystad Energy recently published a report focusing on the operational production costs in the oil and gas industry which have fallen across the global. Specifically, the United Kingdom has emerged as a world leader in cost-cutting powerhouse among international offshore regions.

Watch: Spain’s first floater in operation

Ingeteam, who’s responsible for the electrical engineering, completed the commissioning of the first multi-turbine wind floating platform at its final location in the Atlantic Ocean. The WIP10 + prototype is 1.3 nautical miles off the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, specifically on the PLOCAN test bench, in front of the Punta de la Garita.

First hybrid rig for low emission drilling offshore Norway

Aiming to open route for low-emission drilling on conventionally powered offshore rigs, Maersk Drilling announced it is entering a series of upgrades to convert its jack-up rig ‘Maersk Intrepid’ to a hybrid rig with low levels of NOx emissions, adding data intelligence to further reduce energy consumption and CO2.

US programme initiates on floating wind turbine design

The US Department of Energy has announced up to USD 28 million in funding for a new Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) programme to develop new technologies for floating offshore wind turbines using the discipline of control co-design (CCD).

Resource estimate increased for giant Johan Sverdrup oil field

Norwegian oil major Equinor and the Johan Sverdrup partnership of Lundin Norway, Petoro, Aker BP and Total, announced they are submitting the development plan for the second phase of the Johan Sverdrup offshore oil project to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

New offshore wind project to be created off California

German EnBW will develop an offshore wind project off the coast of Central California. Namely, EnBW and Trident Winds will create a 650–1,000 megawatt ‘Morro Bay’ wind farm with a grid connection in Morro Bay. The focus of the joint venture is to obtain the site lease and then secure the grid connection.

New solution to improve electric transmission from offshore wind farms

This new system synchronises the wind turbines without using any additional element, since it uses the wind turbines’ capacity to contribute to voltage and frequency control. A key aspect of the project is the use of diode rectifier stations, which reduces the cost of the offshore rectifier platform by up to 30%.
