The NGO Transport & Environment (T&E) along with the Royal Association of Netherlands’ Shipowners (KVNR) and the Swedish Shipowners’ Association expressed their support for the EU shipping legislative package to decarbonize the shipping sector and to include shipping in the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), but they also suggested some enhancements. 

United European Car Carriers’ (UECC) Energy & Sustainability Manager, Daniel Gent, told that shipowners and operators looking to comply with the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) are likely to turn to biofuels.

ECSA welcomed the proposal of the European Parliament’s Rapporteur on the EU ETS, MEP Peter Liese, to introduce a requirement for a binding clause in contractual agreements between shipowners and commercial operators and to ensure that the latter pay for the costs of the EU ETS.
