Ulstein Verft announced that it signed a Letter of Intent with an undisclosed owner, for the construction of one or more expedition cruise vessels of the design type ULSTEIN CX104. The vessels are expected to provide exploration facilities and polar capability, while minimizing environmental impact and optimizing operational cost.

Peace Boat has signed a letter of intent with the Finnish shipbuilding company Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Inc., in order to construct the Ecoship, the world’s greenest cruise ship. The agreement was announced during Nor-Shipping Conference, on May 30th.

Deltamarin announced that Icelandic Eimskip Ltd and Greenland-based Royal Arctic Line A/S ordered the first three container vessels from its energy-efficient cargo ship family. The ships will be built at the Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard in China, with which Deltamarin (China) Co., Ltd has signed a design contract.

Incat Crowther announced that Hydrus, the first in a series of 400 passenger catamaran ferries for San Francisco based company WETA, is completed and has entered service. The company says that Hydrus features an efficient design and it is ''very environmentally friendly".

VARD announced that secured a contract for the design and construction of one Research Expedition Vessel for Rosellinis Four-10, a vessel made for worldwide research and expedition activities, to address the ocean’s environmental challenges. The REV is expected to enter service in 2020.

MOL has announced that, DNV GL issued an Approval In Principle to MOL and Samsung Heavy Industries for the future design of a series of four LNG-powered 20,000 TEU containerships which have been under construction.

DSME and DNV GL presented the results of a joint development project for the design of an innovative, efficient LNG carrier based on today’s technology, at the Gastech 2017 conference in Tokyo, Japan. An important consideration for the design of the vessel is the shift towards lower, more energy-efficient transit speeds.
