In two separate ceremonies at South Korean shipyards this week, tanker owner, 'AET', has named four newbuild tankers into its fleet. Namely it named two 113,400 dwt Aframax tankers “Eagle Barcelona” and “Eagle Brisbane” and two 157,512 dwt Suezmax twins, “Eagle San Francisco” and “Eagle San Jose”.

Coral EnergICE, the first Ice Class 1A Super LNG carrier owned by Anthony Veder and operated by Skangas, was named on 25 January at the Port of Turku, Finland. The ship is designed to operate in the Baltic Sea, with its hull reinforced to break through one-meter thick ice.

US-based Crowley Fuels LLC announced the signing of a contract with Bollinger Shipyards for construction of a new Alaska Class 100,000-barrel-capacity articulated tug-barge to transport multiple clean petroleum products in the Alaska market.

This will be the first inland waterway based solution and aims to change the transport and logistic market. The business model is based upon frequency, precision and cargo capacity, with two sailings per week. At first it is planned that the service would ship from eastern Värmland, western Örebro and south Dalarna.

Swedish Concordia Maritime announced  that it has chartered in two more MR ECO vessels, while in the same time it extended the contracts for two of the currently chartered MR ECO vessels by another year. Furthermore, a contract to charter out the P-MAX tanker Stena Performance has also been signed.

Norwegian Vard secured a contract for the construction of an electric car and passenger ferry for compatriot Boreal. The new ferry will feature a fully electrical battery for continuous electric operations, and is specially designed for environmentally friendly operations in the Norwegian fjords.

Irish Continental Group has entered into a €165.2 million agreement with the German company Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesselschaft & Co for the building of a cruise ferry to be the largest in the world in terms of vehicle capacity. Scrubber technology and BWMS onboard will deliver optimal fuel consumption.

Canadian Davie Shipbuilding announced that it has completed the construction, commissioning and sea-trials of the first Resolve-Class Naval Support Ship, to enter national naval fleet. 'Asterix' will also be the country’s 'greenest' ship and features, amongst other environmental innovations, Terragon of Montreal’s MAGS 8 waste management system.

Spanish Baleària announced its new eco-efficient fast ferry 'Eco Aqua' has started operating on the Eivissa-Formentera route, after carrying out the docking tests in both ports, on 25 December. The vessel is the first in a series of four expected in 2018.

Hydroville showcases the use of clean fuels and aims to test hydrogen technology for applications on larger vessels. It will serve as a shuttle on the river Scheldt to provide CMB employees with environmentally-friendly transport to and from their office.
