After the environmental groups Greenpeace and Nature and Youth taken legal action against the Norwegian government in an attempt to stop oil drilling in Norway's Arctic waters back in 2018, an Oslo appeals court recently approved Norway’s plans for more oil exploration in the Arctic.

Shell officially informed that made a "significant gas and condensate discovery" during its exploration in the Browse Basin off the North West Coast of Western Australia. Specifically, the discovery came when drilling in the Bratwurst-1 exploration well.

Equinor informed that the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) granted them a drilling permit for well 30/6-31, located in the North Sea offshore Norway. By giving  this green light to Equinor, the company has the ability to begin its drillling activities without any concerns.

Maersk Drilling officially announced that came in an agreement with Shelf Drilling in order to sell the Maersk Completer for $38 million in an all-cash transaction. Specifically, Shelf Drilling agreed to take over the rig as it is expected to be delivered in January 2020.

The Turkish Cypriot government officially informed that the Gecitkale Airport will from now on be a base for the landing Turkish drones. Those drones are escorting drill ships which are searching for hydrocarbons in the eastern Mediterranean. In light of the situation, a Turkish military drone was delivered to northern Cyprus today, on 16 December.

According to a recent statement, Maersk Drilling has signed agreements with Halliburton and Petrofac to work together on the exploration program under Maersk Drilling’s master alliance agreement with Seapulse. Through the partnership, Maersk Drilling is responsible for providing fully integrated drilling services, including provision of drilling rigs and all related services for a global offshore oil and gas exploration program.

Although the climate concerns continue increasing and the UN leaders urge countries to immediately act and cut emissions of climate-altering gases, the Brazilian's Energy Minister recently announced that Brazil plans to further expand its coastal oil drilling in the “pre-salt” oil and gas area. 

Maersk Drilling and Aker BP collaborated by signing a $10.9m well-secured contract, in order to extent the harsh environment jack up rig, Maersk Integrator. In order to achieve that, the jack-up first needs intense upgrades, as to be turned into a hybrid rig for low emission drilling.

Oslo-based environmental NGO Bellona and NGO Nature and Youth are going out hard against the plans of German oil and gas player Wintershall DEA for exploration drilling at Trænarevet, outside Lofoten, in the Norwegian Sea. 

Although global offshore exploration activity has been flat year-to-date, the number of wells drilled in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) could challenge all-time high levels by the end of the year, says energy research firm Rystad Energy.
