China delivered its first smart very large crude carrier (VLCC) in Dalian, on June 22. The VLCC is called ‘New Journey,’ and is the world’s first intelligent VLCC with a loading capacity of 308,000 tons. The vessel was delivered to China Merchants Energy Shipping Company, after successful trials were conducted in May.
Volvo Trucks’ autonomous vehicle Vera will become part of a solution to transport goods from DFDS’ logistics center to an APM terminal in the Port of Gothenburg, Sweden. The vehicle has a maximum speed of 40 km/hr (25 miles/hr). Last year, Volvo Trucks launched its first electric, autonomous solution, aimed to operate on repetitive assignments in logistics centers, factories and ports.
A new project launched, aims to construct the world’s first fully autonomous robotic inspection solution, in favour of offshore wind farms. The project will cost $5 million, and the robots are expected to save the average of wind farm by about $33 million. In the meantime, it aspires to present the idea that offshore wind operations and maintenance missions can take place by autonomous and digital means.
