Damen shipyards launched a pair of hybrid-electric ferries for the Canadian ferry operator, BC Ferries. Both vessels are now fitted out in order to begin operations next year. The vessels will have the capacity of carrying 300 passengers and crew and 47 vehicles.

Some of the biggest European shipbuilders announced that they have created a new cooperative initiative to develop a connected vessel platform. This project is named Code Kilo and aims to address the digitalisation challenges of various stakeholders. Specifically, EUROYARDS members -  Chantiers de l’Atlantique, Damen Shipyards Group, Fincantieri, Lürssen, Meyer Werft, Naval Group and Navantia - collaborated to improve data management solutions and standards.

Queen Elizabeth cruise ship, the most recent addition to the Cunard fleet, has left Damen Shiprepair Brest (DSBr) in France, following a 12-day repair and refit programme. Under the programme, two scrubbers were installed on the ship.

An InvaSave 300 Mobile Ballast Water Treatment System was transported from the Netherlands to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to be used for a demonstration programme as part of the 'Atlantic Blue Port Services' project, made possible by the INTERREG Atlantic Area Programme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Sister-vessels, Oceanic Sirius and Oceanic Vega have completed a round-the-clock, 10-day maintenance programme at Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm). For eight of those days the two 106-metre vessels were in the yard’s 250-metre drydock no.4 in a tandem arrangement, to maximise the efficient use of resources. 

Damen informed that the MV Tasmanic Winter has nearly concluded its voyage from China to Rotterdam, via the Northern Sea Route, with 24 new vessels on board. Damen chose to ship the vessels through the Northern Sea to reduce delivery times.

Estonian energy company, Eesti Gaas and Damen Shipyards signed a contract for the construction of the first of a series of short-sea LNG bunker vessels to operate in the Baltic Sea. The LGC 6000 LNG class vessel, is planned to be delivered in September 2020, and aims to boost the wider adoption of LNG.

The multinational public transport company Arriva Danmark has recently contracted Damen Shipyards Group for five fully-electric ferries, to be operated for the Danish public transport agency MOVIA, in the country’s capital city Copenhagen, as the city strives to meet its target of zero emissions in public transport in the years to come.

The Mexican Navy along with Damen Shipyards will build the Long Range Ocean Patrol (POLA), which will be the most technologically advanced vessel in Latin America. POLA will be 107 metres in length, while it will be able to sail at speeds of up to 25 knots and a capacity of more than 20 days at sea.
