On 14 January, Damen Shipyards Group along with Gentium Solutions inked a MoU with the Ministry of Industry of Bangladesh in Dhaka, in order to boost the development of shipbuilding and ship repair industry in Bangladesh. Representatives of the Netherlands Embassy in Bangladesh, were also present at the signing ceremony.

Damen Shipyards Group and Maris Projects collaborated to address the issue of invasive seaweed in the Caribbean. The partners are assessing the viability of turning the seaweed into methane for energy purposes. The consortium will present the developments of their solution between 24 and 26 October.

Port of Rotterdam awaits for the arrival of the Black Marlin, on Monday, August 12. The vessel has 18 inland hulls onboard and a crane ship for Damen. The 18 hulls were built in China. The construction of the hulls in China was to be sure of a cost efficient product.

Damen Shipyards signed a contract with Spain-based ferry operator Baleària for the delivery of a Stan Tug 1606 E3. The vessel will be the first IMO Tier III compliant tug to operate in the Mediterranean Sea and the first Damen vessel to serve in Baleària’s fleet.

The first European dredger converted to dual-fuel LNG/MGO propulsion has departed Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque (DSDu), back to operations, 23 months after the contract signing. The 117 metre-8,500 cu m-trailing suction hopper dredger 'Samuel de Champlain' belongs to Rouen-based GIE Dragages-Ports and is operated by the Port of Nantes-Saint-Nazaire. 

Damen Shipyard announced that Damen Shiprepair Brest completed repairs to the hull of LNG carrier Methane Princess, after its collision with a harbour tug in Equatorial Guinea. In order to achieve this in the minimum time it was done while the vessel was both afloat and with the cargo tanks holding either some liquefied gas and gas vapour.

On 15 May, Damen Shipyards and Debmarine Namibia Ltd took part in a special steel cutting ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on a new offshore vessel. Namely, in February 2019, Debmarine Namibia awarded a contract to Damen to build a new crawler diamond recovery vessel for offshore operations in Namibia.

Damen shipyards launched a pair of hybrid-electric ferries for the Canadian ferry operator, BC Ferries. Both vessels are now fitted out in order to begin operations next year. The vessels will have the capacity of carrying 300 passengers and crew and 47 vehicles.

Some of the biggest European shipbuilders announced that they have created a new cooperative initiative to develop a connected vessel platform. This project is named Code Kilo and aims to address the digitalisation challenges of various stakeholders. Specifically, EUROYARDS members -  Chantiers de l’Atlantique, Damen Shipyards Group, Fincantieri, Lürssen, Meyer Werft, Naval Group and Navantia - collaborated to improve data management solutions and standards.

Queen Elizabeth cruise ship, the most recent addition to the Cunard fleet, has left Damen Shiprepair Brest (DSBr) in France, following a 12-day repair and refit programme. Under the programme, two scrubbers were installed on the ship.
