Watch: Steel cut for ‘Odyssey of the Seas’

Royal Caribbean International marked the official start of construction by cutting the first piece of steel for its new Quantum Ultra ship, ‘Odyssey of the Seas’, on 1st of February at Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The ship is expected to sail fall 2020 from the US.

Shipyard De Hoop published a video depicting the launch of Celebrity Cruises’ new expedition cruise vessel ‘Celebrity Flora’. The ship was launched in Lobith-Tolkamer, the Netherlands and is set to make its first sailing on May 26, 2019. ‘Celebrity Flora’ will go to Rotterdam in a few weeks, in order to undergo the final works, which include the construction on the upper deck.

World’s five largest cruise ships in 2019

The video, published by Muster Station, depicts the world’s five largest cruise ships to operate in 2019. Royal Caribbean’s ‘Symphony of the Seas’ is currently claiming the title of the world’s largest cruise ship, with a capacity of 6, 780 passengers and long as 3,9 Statues of Liberty.

In early December, Celebrity Cruises held a naming ceremony for its newest ship ‘Celebrity Edge’. Celebrity Edge is the company’s first new ship in six years and first new ship series in more than a decade. The ship is known for promoting women in multiple roles onboard, as well as for the way the company’s CEO, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, is working to boost women leadership in shipping industry.

The world’s largest cruise ship, Symphony of the Seas, was officially named at the new Terminal A in Miami, on November 15. Symphony of the Seas will sail in the Caribbean, while it will also visit the Bahamas. The ship measures 362 m in length and she will be able to accommodate 5,518 passengers

The video depicts Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas cruise ship arriving at Terminal A in Miami. Symphony of the Seas is the 25th vessel belonging in Royal Caribbean’s fleet. The ship’s naming ceremony will be held on 15th of November 2018 during a celebration hosted by the vessel’s first ever Godfamily.

Celebrity Edge, the first ship to be completely designed in 3D has already started its Translantic voyage this month. The vessel marks a turning point on ship design, as from the first sketches, every step was done in 3D. Celebrity Cruise officially took delivery of Celebrity Edge from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France in November 2018.

Royal Caribbean published a video, depicting ‘Spectrum of the Seas’ having its azipods installed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Each Azipod is 200 tons and takes 1.5 days to install. The azipods can provide ‘Spectrum of the Seas’ with 41 megawatts of propulsion power.

World’s first LNG cruise ship, AIDAnova, has been successfully transferred to Eemshaven, Netherlands. The 180,000 tonne ship was transferred along the river Ems.
On October 8, AIDA Cruises’ newest ship AIDAnova departed the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. In Eemshaven, AIDnova will undergo the final sea trials.
