The Lynceus Project enables cruise companies and vessels keep in track with the number of passengers and monitor them in emergency situations. Recently, cruise companies, and researchers collaborated to develop a wireless system that will track and account for each one of the passengers onboard a vessel.
Facial recognition technology has made its way in the cruise industry and now there are available applications everywhere. Technology company IDEMIA has cooperated with Royal Caribbean and the US Customs and Borders Protection to trial biometric identity verification for CBP’s processes at terminals in Miami, Florida and Cape Liberty, New Jersey.
MSC Cruises launched ZOE, the world’s first virtual personal cruise assistant using artificial intelligence technology. ZOE is a voice-enabled artificial intelligence tool, that will be located in every stateroom. The technology provides information depending on the cruise, while it also speaks seven languages. ZOE will be firstly launched on MSC Bellissimma and then will be available in every ship, including future ones.
Celebrity Edge, the first ship to be completely designed in 3D has already started its Translantic voyage this month. The vessel marks a turning point on ship design, as from the first sketches, every step was done in 3D. Celebrity Cruise officially took delivery of Celebrity Edge from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France in November 2018.
Kongsberg Maritime technology has been chosen for installation aboard Australian cruise line Scenic Cruises’ new ice class cruise ship which is currently under construction at Uljanik Shipyard in Croatia, with delivery expected during 2018.
Wärtsilä has supplied an external lighting system for a new cruise ship currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard, which will be delivered in October.
Costa Cruises employed five latest generation humanoid robots on board the flagship of the fleet to entertain guests during their vacations. Onboard Costa Diadema was presented Pepper, the first robot in the world able to recognize main human emotions and proactively interact with the surrounding environment.
