Hurtigruten’s new hybrid battery powered expedition cruise ship called “MS Fridtjof Nansen” has completed sea trials and will be ready to voyage earlier than expected, ahead of the planned April 1st inaugural voyage.

Windstar Cruises conducted a steel cutting ceremony for its new ‘MS Star Legend’, on September 5 in Palermo. This is the second of three new mid-ship sections being designed and constructed as part of Windstar’s $250 Million Star Plus Initiative, to expand and transform the line’s three Star-class vessels.

Turkey-based Tersan Shipyard is building two new LNG-fueled cruise vessels for Norwegian shipowner Havila Kystruten, expected to operate the historic coastal voyage between Bergen and Kirkenes, along the western coastline of Norway, stopping at 34 ports along the route.
The world’s first cruise ship partially powered by batteries will leave northern Norway to start its maiden voyage, according to cruise operator Hurtigruten. The hybrid cruise ship ‘Roald Amundsen’s’ battery pack allows it to operate solely on batteries for about 45 to 60 minutes under ideal conditions.
Corvus Energy, a Canadian manufacturer of energy storage systems, announced that it will launch a new battery for cruise ships, Ro-pax and ro-ro with unlimited capacity. According to the company, the Corvus Blue Whale is a fit to applications requiring low charge or discharge rate, in combination with high energy demand.
