The Lynceus Project enables cruise companies and vessels keep in track with the number of passengers and monitor them in emergency situations. Recently, cruise companies, and researchers collaborated to develop a wireless system that will track and account for each one of the passengers onboard a vessel.
An MSC cruise ship crashed into a pier and a tourist river boat on a busy canal in Venice, on June 2. According to local media, four people were injured due to the collision, with MSC explaining that the ship experienced mechanical problems.
Spirit of Discovery completed its conveyance across the river Ems on May 26 at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Shipyard De Hoop published a video depicting the launch of Celebrity Cruises’ new expedition cruise vessel ‘Celebrity Flora’. The ship was launched in Lobith-Tolkamer, the Netherlands and is set to make its first sailing on May 26, 2019. ‘Celebrity Flora’ will go to Rotterdam in a few weeks, in order to undergo the final works, which include the construction on the upper deck.

Celebrity Edge is the company’s first new ship in six years and first new ship series in more than a decade. The ship is known for promoting women in multiple roles onboard, as well as for the way the company’s CEO, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, is working to boost women leadership in shipping industry.
The world’s largest cruise ship, Symphony of the Seas, was officially named at the new Terminal A in Miami, on November 15. Symphony of the Seas will sail in the Caribbean, while it will also visit the Bahamas. The ship measures 362 m in length and she will be able to accommodate 5,518 passengers
World’s first LNG cruise ship, AIDAnova, has been successfully transferred to Eemshaven, Netherlands. The 180,000 tonne ship was transferred along the river Ems.
On October 8, AIDA Cruises’ newest ship AIDAnova departed the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. In Eemshaven, AIDnova will undergo the final sea trials.
