The Croatian authorities are using EMSA's Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) to boost their coast guard functions, as to monitor vessel traffic, conduct search and rescue procedures and detection and monitoring of marine pollution. 

Adriatic Gate Container Terminal, the Croatian subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) at the Port of Rijeka, is set to realize an expansion plan up to mid-2020 that is expected to facilitate the berthing of vessels with a length overall of up to 400 meters.

During a mission to Croatia, ITF general secretary Stephen Cotton met with the Croatian Ship Manning Association and the Mare Nostrum Shipowner Association, along with ITF’s affiliate Seafarers Union of Croatia, to discuss how to protect working conditions for the country’s seafarers. Mario Zorovic, managing director of CROSMA, said that it employs 8,000 seafarers, with Croatia following all major conventions and regulations.

After several complaints by NGOs and EU Parliament members, the European Commission conducted an audit during September 2018, regarding the live export industry in the Croatian port of Raša. The report indicates various animal welfare issues for European animals that are being exported to the Middle East and North Africa.

Croatian shipbuilder Uljanik saw another cancelled newbuilding order, involving the construction of a livestock carrier by an owner in Kuwait. This happens as the shipyard has been in financial trouble for months and workers are on a strike, as they have not received their wages for months. 

Croatian police authorities have arrested 12 people as part of investigations into a corruption scandal of financially distressed shipbuilder Uljanik, due to allegations of 'abuse of trust in financial transactions' and fraud. The country’s Ministry of the Interior said the police started investigations into Uljanik in September 2018.

Croatia's shipbuilder Uljanik, who is currently experiencing difficulties, has chosen the domestic shipyard Brodosplit as its partner. As Uljanik informed, the contract will give emphasis on the acceptable and viable restructuring program of Uljanik shipyard. Uljanik is Croatia's largest shipbuilder, as it has two shipyards in Pula and Rijeka. It has experienced financial troubles and for months it has been searching for a partner to invest in it.

The Final Investment Decision for the floating LNG terminal on the Croatian Island of Krk was adopted on January 31, 2019. The procurement process of the FSRU vessel took place in November 2018, during which the bid from Golar was evaluated as the most economically beneficial, offering a new conversion of the existing LNG tanker to the FSRU vessel worth EUR 159.6 million.

LNG Croatia received three bids for the Floating Storage & Regasification Unit with the provision of FSRU operation and maintenance services. After reviewing and evaluating the bids, LNG Croatia said that Golar's bid was fully in line with the requirements of the tender documentation.

The Croatian city of Dubrovnik announced the launch of new measures in order to manage overtourism from cruising. Namely, more and more tourist are choosing to cruise in Dubrovnik, causing congestion. As a result, the city decided to limit the cruise ships docking at its piers to two, beginning next year.
