Officer supply shortfall has reached a record high and is not expected to improve, leading to manning cost inflation, according to the latest Manning Annual Review and Forecast 2023/2024 report published by global shipping consultancy Drewry.

The IMO Navigation, Communications, and Search and Rescue Sub-Committee (NCSR) 10 (10-19 May) made progress on matters regarding maritime safety information.

Since 26 March 2023, the Global Positioning System (GPS) modules of older TT-3026X models have not been working properly after a change in the GPS navigation message signals (GPS rollover). 

AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) has released a statement to inform of its involvement in International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s discussions on improving shipboard Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue (NCSR), 10 to 19 May. 

AMSA has issued new marine notice to provide information on how the automatic channel switching feature in VHF digital selective calling (DSC) radios may impact voice communications during safety critical operations.

The Liberia Maritime Authority has issued Marine Advisory to inform shipowners, operators and Masters onboard vessels about the regulatory changes that affect maritime radiocommunication equipment due to the new VHF frequency, applicable on 01 January 2024.  

The IMO Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue Sub-Committee (NCSR) 10 will take place 10 – 19 May 2023 where all matters related to navigation and communication, search and rescue and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System will be discussed.
