Marlink has signed a strategic alliance with Inmarsat which will see Inmarsat’s new Fleet Xpress service integrated into Marlink’s existing service portfolio.

Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT.L),has launched the Fleet One Global,a simple, cost effective service designed to offer basic voice and data connectivity to the maritime market. Fleet One Global is part of the Fleet One range of satcoms services developed for flexibility, reliability and simplicity, aimed at customers with low data needs looking for basic functionality, greater cost and usage control, with the reassurance of a trusted global commercial satellite network.

Many vessel owners are required to have ship radios on their vessels. Many of these radios are capable of sending automated messages that the U.S. Coast Guard and other search and rescue authorities rely on to locate vessels in distress. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a public notice to highlight how critical for mariners is to comply with certain marine radio rules in these automated messages.

Satlink Satellite Communications Ltd announced that it has become an Inmarsat Partner for Fleet Xpress and FleetBroadband.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands has issued a Marine Safety Advisory to inform about the IMO requirements which ensure GMDSScommunication capability. The HF radiocommunications equipment capable of operating NBDP is updated to meet the new channeling arrangements, contained n the 2012 Radio Regulations HF, Appendix 17, Part B, Sections II and III (HF direct-printing telegraphy), by the first safety radio survey after 01 January 2017.

Inmarsat launched Fleet Xpress, a new service which enables ship owners and operators to enhance their business intelligence, improve operational efficiency and vessel performance, and provide a host of high-value, crew welfare benefits.

Carisbrooke Shipping has selected Marlink to provide satellite communications equipment and coverage for its fleet of modern dry cargo and multi-purpose ships. Carisbrooke plans to improve vessel and fleet operations with greater access to data-centric applications made possible by higher and more available bandwidth on the Marlink Ku-band VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) service.

Inmarsat together with Global Marine Networks and Network Innovations announced the successful trial and subsequent commercial order for Fleet Xpress in Antarctic waters. Fleet Xpress, installed on board the adventure cruise ship Ocean Nova, delivered robust communications in one of the most hostile environments on the planet.
