Several days ago, the U.S. Coast Guard informed that saved five people from a fishing boat which was about to capsize, approximately 14 miles southeast of the Golden Gate Bridge. Specifically, the fishing vessel named as “Mady Jane”, unexpectedly started to taking on water.
The Hellenic Coast Guard conducted a rescue operation on Wednesday, December 4, to evacuate 14 crewmembers from the Liberian-flagged general cargo “New Leo” as the vessel was seriously listing, posing great risk for the seafarers onboard.
On Wednesday, December 4, India gifted the indigenously made patrol vessel CGS Kaamiyaabu to the Maldives National Defense Coast Guard, in order to enhance maritime security in the the Indian Ocean archipelago. It is said that the vessel will be manned by eight Maldives personnel which will be trained in India other than establishing maritime security in the region, it aims to foster its blue economy and safeguard its tourism industry. The initiatives were formally announced during the past year and were launched through a video conference, earlier this week.
The USCG’s Office of Navigation Systems (CG-NAV), officially announced its approval for a series of Automatic Identification System Private Aids to Navigation (AIS PATON), in order to set restricted navigation zones, near commercial rockets’ launch.
A new special prosecution unit raided multiple offices of the Korea Coast Guard with the aim to find evidence in regards to the sinking of the ferry Sewol in 2014, which claimed the lives of 304 people. The raids are said to be part of the latest in a long series of investigations into the loss of the ferry Sewol. It was reported that the raids recovered personnel records listing the names of the first responders on the day of the sinking, as well as other documents related to the accident.
The EU Council officially adopted the Commission’s proposal to reinforce the European Border and Coast Guard, in a bid to respond to the challenges facing Europe in managing migration and its external borders. The European Border and Coast Guard Agency will have a standing corps of 10,000 border guards.
On Monday, November 4, a law enforcement team of Portland’s Coast Guard cooperated with local law enforcement officers to remove protesters of the “Portland Rising Tide” from Port of Vancouver’s Berth 9, where the activists were hanging from hammocks trying to block the freighter Patagonia, which is carrying pipe material for the controversial Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion project.
On Sunday 27 October, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued a 44-year old man from the TUI cruises ship called “Mein Schiff” at a position about 20 nautical miles east of Atlantic City, in order to receive medical care. For the time being, the crewmember’s health condition remains unknown.
On Monday, October 21st, the HM Coastguard assisted with the precautionary evacuation of 115 personnel from the Thistle Platform, operated by Enquest PLC, located almost 125 miles North East of Shetland, just over 100 nautical miles north east of Lerwick.
HM Coastguard provides tips and information on how people can deal with ‘wind and waves’ and be safe, given that the previous weekend the UK was expecting ‘high tides and extra large waves’.
