USCG oversees removal of pollutants from grounded vessel off Hilo

According to a recent statement, US Coast Guard responders are working to remove potential pollutants from the 63-foot fishing vessel Midway Island, which ran aground off Hilo. In fact, the USCG is working with the Department of Land and Natural Resources and contractor personnel to mitigate the potential pollution threat from the vessel. Reportedly, a maximum potential of 1,800 gallons of diesel and two marine batteries are aboard.

Portland coast guard blocks protests against Trans Mountain Pipeline

On Monday, November 4, a law enforcement team of Portland’s Coast Guard cooperated with local law enforcement officers to remove protesters of the “Portland Rising Tide” from Port of Vancouver’s Berth 9, where the activists were hanging from hammocks trying to block the freighter Patagonia, which is carrying pipe material for the controversial Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion project. 

Fishing vessel sinks in Seward Harbor, Alaska

The fishing vessel Nordic Viking that sank in Seward Harbor on December 9 caused oil spill in the area and the US Coast Guard is responsible for the clean-up procedures concerning fuel that was released. The factor remains unknown. The wildlife faces no hazards and further discharges haven’t been reported.
