Canada officially names Coast Guard ship ‘Sir John Franklin’

On August 29, the Canadian Coast Guard officially named the Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel CCGS Sir John Franklin during a dedication to service ceremony held at the Institute of Ocean Sciences in Sidney, British Columbia. The home port for the CCGS Sir John Franklin will be the Institute of Ocean Sciences in Sidney, British Columbia.

European Coast Guard discusses its future actions

On 11-12 April 2018, the European Fisheries Control Agency hosted the first European Annual Coast Guard event, in La Toja, Spain. It was co-organised by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, the European Fisheries Control Agency and the European Maritime Safety Agency. The discussions provided feedback on the current cooperation activities.

EMSA issues creation of European coastguard pilot project

Three European Agencies support the national authorities in performing their coast guard tasks, EMSA, Frontex and EFCA. While the three Agencies have quite diverse tasks, the common domain in which they operate naturally drives them to team up and search for synergies. 

New Canadian Coast Guard lifeboats on the way

Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, today announced that the Government of Canada has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to seek industry feedback on the next generation of Coast Guard lifeboats.

Coastguard operations centre unveiled

A new coastguard national maritime operations centre has been officially unveiled in Hampshire.The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) facility will eventually handle emergency calls from across the UK and replace several coastguard stations.
