NYK’s coal carrier begins operation

Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, Japanese shipbuilder, delivered the "Sunshine Pride" coal carrier to work for Joban Joint Power, operated by NYK Line, while a delivery ceremony was conducted at the same time. The vessel has been already equipped with a scrubber system, compliant with IMO's regulations, making it environmentally friendly.

Natural gas and renewables become more profitable options in Spain

Energy produced at coal-fired thermal stations made up less than 5% of all electricity generated in 2019 in Spain, as natural gas and renewables become more profitable options. According to figures that Red Eléctrica de España (REE), the national power grid operator, advanced to EL PAÍS, the country has dramatically reduced its reliance on coal-fired power, and as a direct result, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from electricity generation fell 33.3% in 2019.

Coal’s global production expects a 3% fall for 2019

According to the recent report "Global Coal Power Set for Record Fall in 2019" published by Carbon Brief, the global electricity production of coal is about to fall by 3% for the 2019, making it the largest drop on record. The analysis was based on the monthly electricity sector data from every country, of the first seven months of 2019, compared with the same period in the preceding year.

MOL reveals plans for next-gen coal carrier

MOL announced a vessel design it calls 'EeneX', for a 90-type (90,000 DWT) next-generation coal carrier, developed in cooperation with Japanese shipyards. The vessel's design aims to achieve safe, reliable and economically efficient transport of coal. MOL suggests the 'EeneX' brand under its concept of providing optimal, 'stress-free' transport service for customers and the environment.
