NGOs urge IMO for deep emission cuts from ships before 2030

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has a historic opportunity in the next three months to put the global shipping industry on an equitable, 1.5°C-aligned decarbonisation pathway, highlighted a group of NGOs, pushing IMO to take decisive actions towards shipping emissions cuts during the Intersessional Working Group on Greenhouse Gases (ISWG-GHG-14) that takes place 20 to 24 March 2023.

Clean Shipping Coalition slams IMO’s view on EU ETS

The Clean Shipping Coalition has sent a letter to Mr. Kitack Lim, Secretary General of IMO, criticizing his recent views on including shipping industry in the EU Emission Trading System. Mr. Lim has expressed concerns that this action could undermine efforts to reduce greenhouse as emissions from shipping on a global basis whereas the NGO supports that IMO should not interfere in European politics.
