Carnival sets new goal of 40% CO2 reduction by 2030

In 2019, Carnival Corporation made further progress on its 2020 carbon reduction goal and committed to a new goal of 40% reduction in the intensity of CO2 emissions by 2030, in line with IMO requirements and the Paris Agreement, the company said in its newly launched sustainability report. 

Costa Cruises signs ‘Genoa Blue Agreement’ for Ports of Genoa and Savona

Costa Cruises has signed the ‘Genoa Blue Agreement’ promoted by the Genoa and Savona Coast Guard Offices. The document mandates vessels to use marine gasoil with a sulphur content not exceeding 0.10% by mass prior to entering the ports of Savona and Genoa, and not only while the ship is moored as required by current legislation.

Carnival emits 10 times more emissions than all of Europe’s cars, study reports

Carnival Corporation emitted about 10 times more sulphur oxide (SOx) around European coasts than did all 260 million European cars in 2017, a new analysis by sustainable transport group Transport & Environment reveals. As for Royal Caribbean Cruises, it is second, with yet four times worse than the European car fleet.

Carnival study indicates that scrubbers are positive for the environment

Carnival Corporation presented the results of an independent, two-year scientific wash-water study that shows its scrubbers are a safe and effective means for compliance with IMO’s 2020 requirements, which include regulations for cleaner air emissions and strict wash-water quality standards. The study found that the wash-water samples from scrubbers were below the limits of numerous major national and international water quality and land-based water discharge standards.

CSA 2020: Scrubber washwater study presents positive results

The Clean Shipping Alliance 2020 held its first technical conference and presented a detailed study of the composition and quality of scrubber washwater. The Carnival-led study, which lasted three years, gathered 281 wash water samples from 53 ships with scrubbers. This data was then assessed against 54 different test parameters by ISO accredited independent laboratories.
