In 2018, cargo handling turnover in Klaipeda Seaport exceeded 46 million tons, marking a record in the entire history of the port. The Port estimates that this result is to contribute to the Lithuanian State budget by more than EUR 800 million.

According to the Portuguese Mobility and Transport Authority, the cargo that was handled in mainland Portugal experienced a 4.4% decrease year-on-year until November to 84.9 million tonnes, with Aveiro and Faro in a counter-cycle.

The Northwest Seaport Alliance released an economic impact report describing the benefits of marine cargo to the state of Washington. Namely, the ports of Seattle and Tacoma make up the fourth-largest container gateway in North America, and support 20,100 jobs and $1.9 billion in labor income. The marine cargo industry produced an average annual wage of $95,000 and supported $5.9 billion in business output.

The Freeport of Riga, which handles more than a half of the total cargo volume in the Latvian ports, in 2018 transferred 36.4 million tons of various goods, which is 8.2% more than last year. These cargo turnover figures have been driven by growth in the dry bulk and general cargo segments, which has compensated for the decrease in the liquid cargo segment.   

Navis announced that Terminal Puerto Arica has gone live with the N4 terminal operating system to better manage the rise in cargo handling volume, which has more than tripled. N4 is a customizable and scalable Terminal Operating System. The decision to implement N4 was made in 2016 and went live September 1, 2018.

The Port of Wilmington, Delaware, has loaded its first shipment of new Ford vehicles, welcoming the Alliance St. Louis. As part of the vessel’s multiyear contract, this journey is one of between 3-4 per month outlined in the contract. The vessel was loaded on January 7 for it’s final destination in the Middle East.

Annual cargo throughput exceed 1 billion tonnes at Ningbo Zhoushan port in east China's Zhejiang Province in 2018. With this, the Port became the world's first to surpass such volume. The annual container throughput at the port achieved a record of 26 million standard containers.

The Port of Los Angeles moved more cargo in 2018 than any time in its history, racking up 9,458,749 TEUs. This is an increase of 1.2% than 2017’s record-breaking year. It is the third year in a row that the Port achieves record volumes. In December, the Port processed 903,258 TEUs, which constitutes the busiest December.

Port of Oakland container volume achieved an all-time high in 2018. Specifically, the Port handled the equivalent of 2.55 million 20-foot containers last year. An increase of 5.2% from 2017. This was the second year in a row that the Port of Oakland achieves a record volume.

The Port of Virginia achieved a new annual record for container cargo volume. Specifically it handled over 2.85 million TEUs in 2018. This represents a slight percent increase over 2017 total. In 2018, the port’s TEU volumes increased by 5% over 2017.
