A steel cutting ceremony marked the start of construction of what is known as' Singapore's largest' LNG bunkering vessel, as the bunker ship will be the second LNG bunkering vessel in Singapore.

Malaysia is examining plans to enhance its bunkering sector, so as to catch up with Singapore’s performance in the similar industry, according to the Malaysian Minister of Transport Anthony Loke Siew Fook. Currently talks are underway, with the main problem being that Malaysia's bunkering facilities are not big enough.

In an updated FAQs document, US OFAC clarifies that, even for vessels carrying lawful cargo to and from Iran, the provision of bunkers is unlawful and subject to US secondary sanctions, wherever it takes place, in the event the bunkering operation involves, inter alia, US financial institutions.

Elenger, a subsidiary of Estonian energy company Eesti Gaas operating in foreign markets, began providing LNG bunkering services to LNG-powered vessels in the port of Hanko, Finland for the first time, in addition to Tallinn and Helsinki, where the company already operates. 

The port of Rotterdam announced launch of a new app aiming to reduce burden and improve efficiency of bunkering operations. While bunkering is one of the most important maritime services in the port, many transactions still take place by telephone or paper. 

Malaysia informed that it continues to develop plans to antagonize Singapore’s bunkering dominance, as Johor Port Authority has presented $477 million development of an oil storage and bunkering site in the country’s south. The Bunker Island Development project will consist of two jetties and seven berths, which will have a storage capacity of approximately 1.2 million cbm. It is expected to be completed in four years.

The German Mukran Port and Hoyer, energy supplier, announced their collaboration on a fully automated bunker station to serve vessels calling the port. The tank facility will be constructed by the end of 2019.

Saras Group, opetor of the refinery plant based in Sarroch, Sardinia, Italy, published its H1 2019 financial report, according to which it will proceed with its bunkering operations in Cagliari this month. The company will start on August the bunkering business in Cagliari area that is expected to contribute positively to the Group results.

Port of Duqm, the only Omani port, is taking steps to become a regional favourite hub, as a port official commented in Times of Oman. The port is able to compete against other ports in the area. Up to now, six companies have already signed to commence business with the port, as also, the majority of the port's services are ready in 2020.
