Chinese bulk freight market declines

The Shanghai Shipping Exchange reported that China’s coastal bulk freight market has seen a decrease in general demand, analysing the index of coastal bulk freight, coal sub-index, metal ore sub-index, and refined oil products index, according to Xinhua.

Greek shipping firm ‘Star Bulk Carriers’ announced its Q1 2019 financial results, presenting a net loss of $5.3 million during a challenging and seasonally weak period of the year, which included approximately 300 off-hire days for scrubber installations. 

BIMCO: Shipping industry searches for future growth

Namely, the dry bulk demand is supported, while container shipping will experience more pressure.
