World’s first hybrid self-discharging bulk carriers

The technology group Wärtsilä along with the Norwegian company Aasen Shipping, came in an agreement for the construction and supply of the world’s first hybrid powered self-discharging bulk carrier. Namely, Wärtsilä will provide its design and supply hybrid systems for the vessels.

South Korean Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has delivered to compatriot Ilshin Logistics the world’s first LNG-fueled bulk carrier under the dual-class of Lloyd’s Register and Korean Register. The 50,000 dwt bulk carrier has been verified to be in compliance with the IGF Code.

MES delivers eco bulk carrier to Eastern Mediterranean Maritime

Japanese shipbuilder Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. announced delivery of the 60,000 dwt type bulk carrier M.V. “VENEZIA” to Eastern Mediterranean Maritime Limited, Greece. The 200-meter ship was delivered at MES’ Tamano Works on 25 October.

NYK to deploy binary cycle power generation system on new ship

Japanese NYK announced that it will deploy a binary cycle power generation system on one newly constructed Panamax bulk carrier to be operated by the company. The system will generate electricity from the exhaust heat emitted by the marine engine’s air cooler.

ESL launches world’s first LNG-fueled handyzise bulk carrier

ESL Shipping, part of Aspo Plc, informed that its new eco-friendly dry cargo vessel, Viikki, was successfully launched at the Jinling shipyard in Nanjing, China, on August 31st. Viikki is the first LNG-powered handyzise bulk carrier in the world and is a forerunner in energy efficiency.

HHI to build four “green” bulk carriers for Bahri

On Friday 25 August, the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia announced that its subsidiary, Bahri Dry Bulk Company, signed contracts with Hyundai Heavy Industries to build four environmentally friendly bulk carriers.

Largest vessel of Bangladesh officially launched

Western Marine Shipyard, shipping company of Bangladesh, launched first of ten 8000DWT Mini Bulk Carriers, “JSW Pratapgad”, in a ceremony held on March 29, in Chittagong. This is the largest vessel built so far in Bangladesh, marking a milestone in the country’s emerging shipbuilding industry.
