In light of the opening of Corvus Energy's first production plant in Norway, Corvus inked an agreement with AIDA Cruises to electrify the first cruise ship of AIDA Cruises; AIDAperla will be the first ship to be equipped with lithium-ion batteries.

German cruise line AIDA Cruises, part of Carnival Corporation, signed an agreement with marine battery supplier Corvus Energy, regarding the installation of lithium-ion battery storage systems onboard the AIDA Cruises fleet, starting from 2020.

Hurtigruten announced that three of its vessels will be transformed to premium, hybrid powered expedition cruise ships. Retrofitted with battery packs and other green technology, the three ships will operate year-round expedition cruises along the Norwegian coast from 2021.

Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB), based in Antwerp, and Japanese shipbuilder Tsuneishi Facilities & Craft (TFC) announced their collaboration to construct a hydrogen-powered ferry. TFC will bring its state-of-the-are shipbuilding expertise, whereas CMB Technologies will bring their knowledge on marine hydrogen systems.

Samsung Heavy Industries Co., one the major shipbuilders in South Korea, informed on July 29, that it has created a lithium-ion battery power system for ships. According to the company, the battery system can be implemented to any type of ships.

The Californian Port of Oakland is to acquire another two electric big rigs by October 2019, as GSC Logistics wishes to discover if zero-emission tractors can haul cargo containers over highways. The company said it is acquiring two 13-ton electric trucks with assistance from state grants.
