ReCAAP ISC: Three incidents reported last week

In its weekly report for 22-28 October, ReCAAP ISC informed of three incidents of armed robbery against ship in Asia. From these, two were reported in the Singapore Strait, including an attempted attack but also a significant incident of physical violence, reiterating recent security concerns in the area.

ReCAAP ISC: Four armed robberies against ships in Asia

In its weekly report for 24-30 September, ReCAAP ISC informed of a total of four incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia. From these incidents, one occurred in Indian anchorage, one in a Philippine anchorage and two in Indonesia.

Pirates board tanker anchored off Guinea

Four robbers armed with a gun and knives boarded an anchored tanker, while it was anchored about 5 nm southwest of Conakry, in the Gulf of Guinea, according to IMB Piracy. Upon boarding the ship, they took hostage the duty AB, tide his hands and forced him to lead them to the bridge.

ReCAAP ISC: January-August incidents decreased by 25%

A total of eight incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia in August, representing a 11% decrease compared to August 2018, according to ReCAAP ISC’s monthly report. The total number of incidents in January-August 2019 has decreased by 25% compared to January-August 2018.

One attempted armed robbery against ship off Indonesia

In its weekly report for 3-9 September, ReCAAP ISC informed of one attempted incident of armed robbery against the Panamanian-flagged chemical tanker ‘SG Pegasus’ while anchored at Tanjung Uban anchorage, Pulau Bintan, Indonesia on 7 August.

Japan, Singapore, ReCAAP ISC review efforts against piracy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA Japan) and the MPA Singapore, in cooperation with the ReCAAP ISC, jointly organised the 3rd Capacity Building Executive Programme (CBEP) in Singapore, to discuss the situation on Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia.

In its weekly report for 27 August – 2 September, ReCAAP ISC reported one CAT 3 incident of armed robbery against a ship in Asia. The incident involved the Marshall Island-flagged tanker ‘Eagle’, while anchored in the South China Sea, off Malaysia.

Armed robbery against ship anchored in Batam, Indonesia

In its weekly report for 20 – 26 August, ReCAAP ISC informed of an armed robbery against the Singaporean-flagged tug boat ‘Salviceroy’ while anchored at Batam anchorage, Indonesia. This was classified as a CAT 3 incident, which is ‘less significant’.
