Petroineos to launch 0.5% sulphur marine fuel during 2019

Petroineos will be selling 0.5% sulphur marine fuel from its Lavera refinery, which is located on the French Mediterranean coast. The company will start selling the compliant fuel in the fourth quarter this year. Petroineos's IMO compliant fuel will be complying with the current ISO 8217 specifications. As of today, the company is producing 1% low-sulphur fuel oil. Regarding the 0.5% very low-sulphur fuel oil, its supply will be based on market prices.

New shipping fuels able to reduce pollution, report says

A new paper called 'Sailing on Solar', commissioned by Environmental Defense Fund Europe and developed by Ricardo, showcases a vision of how international shipping can meet its target of at least halving emissions by 2050, while at the same time helping developing nations leverage the emerging clean energy economy. The paper focuses on green ammonia produced from surplus renewable electricity.

Russian JV launches LNG production project

PAO Novatek informed that its joint venture with Gazprombank Cryogas-Vysotsk has started full-scale production of LNG. During the official ceremony at the port of Vysotsk, Russian President Vladimir Putin has formally launched the Cryogas-Vysotsk LNG project. The project’s initial design capacity is 660 thousand tons of LNG per annum, and its infrastructure includes a 42 thousand cubic meters LNG storage tank and an offloading berth.

LNG to face a US$200bn capex boom

According to Wood Mackenzie, the LNG boom has returned. Over the course of the next two years, almost 90 million tonnes per annum of LNG is expected to take final investment decision and begin construction. Research from Wood Mackenzie indicated that capital expenditure for both LNG plant and upstream infrastructure will amount to over US$200 billion between 2019 and 2025.

Polish LNG terminal receives more financing to expand

Approximately €128 million from the European Regional Development Fund is invested in extending the Świnoujście LNG terminal. The current investment adds to over €250 million invested by the EU in the LNG terminal and to more than €2 billion in Polish energy infrastructure since 2007. The LNG regasification terminal in Świnoujście is the biggest LNG facility in Northern Europe and in the Central and Eastern Europe.
