The WLPGA, with its continued commitment to cleaner environment, believes that LPG is an ideal propulsion fuel for the marine industry. The US Department of Energy has announced up to $32.5 million in federal funding for cost-shared research and development to advance solid oxide fuel cell technologies. SOFC R&D aims to create efficient, cost-effective electricity generation from  domestic coal and natural gas resources, with minimal use of water and near-zero atmospheric emissions of carbon dioxide and pollutants.

Enterprise Products Partners and Navigator Holdings formed a 50-50 joint venture to create a new ethylene export facility in the US Gulf Coast that will have the capacity to export approximately 1 million tons of ethylene per year. Refrigerated storage for 30,000 tons of ethylene will be installed on-site, making possible the loading of ethylene at rates of 1,000 tons per hour.

HHI wants to lead the eco-friendly ship market, by ordering numerous LNG carriers. Namely, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard won an order for a 50,000-ton LNG bulk carrier in 2016, while Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries will build six units of the world's first LNG-powered VLCC.

The Port of Barcelona announced that the first vessel has connected to an LNG-fueled engine at its port. This is part of Port of Barcelona's attempt to reduce shipping emissions in the port, by replacing the operation of the vessel's auxiliary engines.

South Korea will sign an agreement with the state-run Korea Gas Corp., local shipbuilders and provincial port authorities to initiate a project. which aims to to build 80,000-ton LNG-propelled vessels by the end of 2018. With these orders, South Korea attempts to further promote green shipping and enhance the industry.
