Canadian, Japanese ports collaborate on LNG fueling

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and the Tomakomai Port Authority joined forces to promote the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel and provide LNG bunkering services at the Port of Vancouver and Port of Tomakomai.

A new paper called ‘Sailing on Solar’, commissioned by Environmental Defense Fund Europe and developed by Ricardo, showcases a vision of how international shipping can meet its target of at least halving emissions by 2050, while at the same time helping developing nations leverage the emerging clean energy economy. The paper focuses on green ammonia produced from surplus renewable electricity.

China implements earlier the 0,5% sulphur limit in Yangtze ECA

As of 1 October 2018, ships operating in China’s Yangtze River Delta domestic ECA can no longer use fuel with a sulphur content exceeding 0.5%, unless a scrubber is installed, Gard Club said citing information by Chinese regional authorities of Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces.

NABU: Only one newbuilt cruise ship will use LNG

Just one newly built cruise ship uses LNG, German environment association NABU noted, adding that the remaining checked ships coming into the market this year, will continue to use heavy fuel oil. Namely, AIDAnova will be the first cruise ship using liquefied natural gas LNG.

French court sues cruise ship Captain for violating sulphur limit

A French court has sued the Captain of the cruise ship ‘Azura’, operated by P&O Cruises, over breaching sulphur fuel limit, during the ship’s stopover in Marseilles on 29 March. If found guilty, the Master could face up to a year in prison and a fine of up to €200,000.
