Hyundai Mipo Dockyard recently received an Approval in Principle (AiP) from Lloyd’s Register concerning its ammonia-powered design of a 50,000 dwt MR tanker.

ABS recently announced that granted an Approval in Principle (AIP) to Kawasaki Heavy Industries regarding its LPG as fuel system design. Specifically, KHI highlights that its dual-fuel engine is capable of using both marine diesel oil and LPG as fuel, while reduces fuel consumption, following the NOx Tier 3 regulations.

The shipbuilding company, Hudong-Zhonghua was awarded with an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate from DNV GL for its largest gas-fueled 25000TEU Ultra Large Container vessel (ULCS) design at the CSSC booth. The award ceremony was held at the Marintec China trade fair in Shanghai.

Rolls-Royce received Approval in Principle (AIP) from ABS for its hybrid propulsion system for tractor tugs. The AIP was granted after evaluating the world’s first hybrid tug, which will be the first tug boat installed with the Rolls-Royce hybrid propulsion system.

Lloyd's Register granted Hyundai Heavy Industries an AiP for a VLGC design capable of using LPG as fuel. It is the first time the shipyard has received an AiP for LPG as a fuel design, as per the new IGC code.  This AiP opens up the way for VLGC operators, who are trying to limit GHG emissions. 

The design basis is storing 2 Mbbl of crude oil in the barge-shaped hull, applying mainly shipbuilding standards, and combining offshore production facility features, such as a 25-year lifetime without drydocking, and structural reinforcement for Topside structure installation.

The new VLEC will incorporate a specialized membrane cargo containment system, which will carry liquid gas cargoes like ethane and propane. The vessel was designed with a minimum cargo temperature of -94℃, supporting a low cargo boil-off rate.

Dalian Shipbuilding Industry has received Approval in Principle certificates from classification society DNV GL for a new shuttle tanker and a column stabilized crane unit designs, on the sidelines of Marintec China trade fair in Shanghai.

The Dreifa FRU consists of a regasification plant and associated utility systems located on the deck of a platform supply vessel. The unit operates in combination with an LNG carrier acting as a floating storage unit.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has received approval in principle from Lloyd’s Register for a cargo handling system design for a 6,600 m³ LNG bunkering vessel. The design was jointly developed by HMD and the Hyundai Heavy Industries Corporate Research Centre.
