World’s largest floating wind turbine to start operations

The largest floating wind turbine in the world, an 8.4-megawatt (MW) offshore wind turbine, is about to be installed 20 kilometers off the coast of Viana do Castello, Portugal. It is the first of three SEMI Submersible Type units designed by Principle Power housing MHI Vestas turbines that will make up for a total of 25 MWs of floating offshore wind power.

ABS: Challenges for subsea processing systems

Deepwater production remains an essential part of the global energy mix and economically viable projects continue to progress. In this regard, an advisory by ABS seeks to support the offshore industry in advancing the development of subsea processing technologies and their implementation.

First offshore cyber security-ready notation awarded

ABS awarded a CS-Ready Notation to a Sembcorp Marine jack-up drilling rig built to its proprietary Pacific Class 400 design. The CS-Ready Notation combines new features as it is the first-of-its-kind issued to an offshore facility. It requires that functions and connections are specifically characterized so the owner can control access to connections and systems.

ABS: Guidance on smart function implementation

ABS issued guidance providing the marine and offshore industries an actionable framework for owners, operators and manufacturers to take smart steps today in preparation for an environmentally sustainable future. The ‘ABS Guidance Notes on Smart Function Implementation’ support data infrastructure development, enabling health and performance monitoring, and augmenting vessel operations.
