Guidance launched for FPSOs in Brazil

ABS has launched a support package for offshore operators in Brazil’s complex regulatory environment. It also published a technical advisory and two new notations. 

New industry’s 3D printing project launched

3D printing of metallic components has significant potential for maritime and offshore industry applications. In this context, the online procurement firm in marine equipment, ShipParts.com, has signed a research collaboration agreement with Singapore’s Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) with the aim to prove standards for the certification of metallic components produced by NYP’s Additive Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC) for maritime application. 

ABS issues barrier management advisory

Offshore operations can lead to accidents from blowouts and fires to explosions and collision; Thus, ABS issued an advisory on ABS Management, providing operators and owners with insight to barrier management.

ABS receives $2.1m grant to boost offshore safety

ABS was recently awarded $2.1 million for two of its projects based on enhancing safety in the offshore oil and gas field. The grant was given by the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine under their $7.25 million investment on 8 projects, aiming to further develop safety offshore.
