At the Nor-Shipping event in Oslo, on May 31st, project partners ABB, OMT, GTT, Caterpillar’s Solar Turbines, CMA CGM, its subsidiary CMA Ships, and DNV GL, presented the results of phase II of the PERFECt joint industry project. Phase II of the project looked to validate the phase I results and develop the concept to a “ready to order” stage.

NKT Victoria, the advanced cable laying vessel has been crowned ‘Ship of the Year’ by Skipsrevyen at Nor-Shipping, in recognition of the vessel’s technology which includes Onboard DC Grid, Azipod® propulsion and marine software.

ABB announced that, from mid-2017, it will launch a new frame size for its Power2® 800-M two-stage turbocharging solution, that will allow more vessels to benefit from the high efficiency and fuel savings. Power2 800-M's design achieves an overall turbocharging efficiency of more than 75 percent, some 10 percent higher than conventional single-stage models.

Nor-Shipping Charity Fun Run co-sponsor DNV GL and event participant ABB, who are sending a team of 19 runners, called for more businesses to register teams for this year’s 5km charity fun run. Taking place on Monday 29th May, the event aims to raise £100,000 for Nor-Shipping’s 2017 partner charity, the Mission to Seafarers, the world’s leading maritime welfare charity.

Top players from marine and IT-industry have teamed up to jointly develop world's first system of autonomous ships. The shared vision for the ecosystem partners is to enable fully remote controlled vessels in the Baltic Sea in three years and to achieve autonomous commercial maritime traffic by 2025.

ABB’s MRV module has been certified by Verifavia, as a tool to monitor all parameters to comply with the EU’s MRV regulation requirements. As a standardized MRV compliant software platform, the ABB module collects and visualizes data from onboard sensors on a ship’s fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions on a per-voyage basis.

ABB will equip two DFDS vessels with shaft generators that will raise their energy efficiency, in order to meet the latest environmental regulations. Two shaft generators will be installed in each of the cargo Ro-Ro ships, allowing the main engines to operate at a wider speed range.

Roberto Bernacchi, ABB, explaines that commercial ports are complex systems where goods and passenger traffic must be managed efficiently and in a sustainable way: all ports stakeholders shall cooperate to achieve the lowest environmental impact.

ABB’s Marine Academy has been recognized by classification society DNV GL for meeting its standards for maritime training. The Academy was awarded the DNV GL SeaSkill certificate following an extensive audit.
