ABB released a report analyzing how today’s ships can occasionally sail the oceans with unmanned bridges. The report says that current technology may be able to provide the necessary framework, under which unmanned bridges can become a reality. The reduced workload will reduce fatigue and increase performance.

A new collaboration between six organisations, called 'Electromobility for Shipping', intends to promote shipping electrification, with the aim of a more sustainable future in the maritime sector. The organisations will jointly contribute to climate-smart shipping, international competitiveness and increased export opportunities for green technologies.

Hudong-Zhonghua and ABB chose the Roxtec EMC sealing system, in order to withstand offshore conditions. Namely, Roxtec cable transits are used for the electric propulsion system and the reliquefaction system.

ABB Turbocharging announced that it managed to achieve a new low-speed turbocharging efficiency, as an increase of 2 percent was made, by performing the measurement on an actual engine on an engine testbed.

ABB announced the launch of 'ABB Ability Marine Pilot Vision'. A system that offers the possibility for officers to remotely control a ship and provides real-time visualizations of a vessel’s surroundings. 

Electric power can enhance a vessel’s fuel consumption and can make room for the use of other energy sources, like batteries and fuel cells. Therefore, ABB adopts a new approach to coincide with industry’s transition towards the use of new energy sources and automated ship operations.

ABB announced that it is going to deliver the first fuel cell system to Royal Caribbean. The system will be used on board a Royal Caribbean International vessel and will be the first fuel cell system to provide an energy source for a cruise ship.

Wärtsilä and ABB have signed an agreement to expand their cooperation, to offer enhanced engine performance optimisation over the lifecycle. In this context, ABB has granted Wärtsilä the Authorized Service Provider status for standard maintenance of ABB turbochargers installed with Wärtsilä 4-stroke engines.

ABB has secured a contract by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, to provide a technology solution that will enable power to be supplied from shore to the Global Container Terminal Deltaport. The project is part of a joint commitment by the federal government and the Port Authority to reduce environmental impact.
