Ten organizations commit to rapid adoption of green hydrogen-based fuels

Leading organizations and initiatives across the shipping value chain, joined by the  largest producers of green hydrogen, signed on to a joint statement at COP27, committing to the rapid and ambitious production and use of low-carbon fuels based on green hydrogen to accelerate decarbonization of global shipping. The shipping sector  currently accounts for 3 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions but is expected to  grow to 50 percent by 2050 without intervention.

ABS sets the way for lower-carbon emission shipping

Apart from the ambitious target of the 2020 Global Sulphur Cap set by the IMO, shipowners and operators must also take into considerations the greenhouse gas targets for 2030 and the emissions goals for 2050. ABS informs that the regulatory changes set for 2020, as well as those expected for 2030 and 2050, will be “more disruptive than any past environmental regulations.”
