Shell conducts successful trials of 0.50% sulphur marine fuel

As the IMO 2020 implementation day is approaching quickly, Shell informed that, in order to help operators prepare, it is offering trials for its very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) in key ports. Shell has also launched a new two-stroke engine cylinder oil specifically for use with engines running on VLSFO.  Shell has already conducted 19 successful trials of the 0.5% sulphur fuel with shipowners at key ports.

Petroineos to launch 0.5% sulphur marine fuel during 2019

Petroineos will be selling 0.5% sulphur marine fuel from its Lavera refinery, which is located on the French Mediterranean coast. The company will start selling the compliant fuel in the fourth quarter this year. Petroineos's IMO compliant fuel will be complying with the current ISO 8217 specifications. As of today, the company is producing 1% low-sulphur fuel oil. Regarding the 0.5% very low-sulphur fuel oil, its supply will be based on market prices.

Maltese shipyard to equip three ferries with scrubbers

Palumbo Malta Shipyard has secured a €6 million international contract to equip scrubbers to three ro-ro passenger ferries, ahead of the 2020 sulphur cap regulation. The contract regards the conversion of existing spaces on the ships, as well as underwater modification. The shipyard hopes to achieve a fast turnaround of the job and each of these vessels can be retrofitted within 30 days.

CIMAC calls for wide cross-sector collaboration to cut shipping emissions

The IMO decision of April 2018 to decarbonise and at least halve its greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 was an important milestone and was largely welcomed by the global engine builders’ community, CIMAC said. It added however, than only through cross-sector cooperation and an increased focus on R&D in carbon-neutral technologies will shipping be able to reach the IMO 2050 target.
