Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, in a meeting with IMO Secretary General, Arsenio Dominguez, highlighted the impact of Houthi attacks, noting that these incidents have hurt Egypt’s economy and led to Suez Canal revenue losses estimated at $6 billion.
During their discussions, Abdelatty raised concerns about the security of commercial shipping in the region due to the ongoing Houthi attacks, which have negatively impacted Egyptian interests and overall maritime safety. Abdelatty also emphasized Egypt’s commitment to playing a leading role within the IMO, highlighting its membership in the organization’s Executive Council.
As mentioned, he pointed out that these incidents have significantly harmed the Egyptian economy, particularly affecting Suez Canal revenues, with losses estimated at around $6 billion.
He expressed optimism regarding the establishment of the IMO regional office for Arab countries in Alexandria, noting that its presence would enhance cooperation between the organization and countries in the Middle East and North Africa, opening up broader horizons for collaboration in maritime transport and safety.
